Art from discarded materials and trash. Provocatively poking fun at power, bureaucracy and the class divide. My artworks are souvenirs from a world that is bizarre, harsh and self-destructing.
Helen Grundy is an object maker and collage artist based in Birmingham, balancing her creative practice with managing a homeless hostel. Her work explores themes of waste, recycling, and power, weaving humor into poignant reflections on complex societal issues. Employing a distinctive blend of collage, photography, model-making, and illustration, Helen crafts imaginative, hybrid worlds that resonate with environmental and narrative depth.
In 2022, Helen received Arts Council funding to develop her practice, propelling her onto international and national platforms. Her works have featured in The Cut Out and Collage Festival in Lviv, Ukraine, and exhibitions like Inside Out. Her series Humanity toured venues such as Sotheby’s in London, Project Ability in Glasgow, and Brighton and Hove Museum.
Helen was selected for Autograph’s Becoming Monumental open call and was commissioned by Lubaina Himid CBE for Found Cities, Lost Objects: Women in the City. In 2024, she exhibited in the Birmingham Open, a public digital collage installation in Victoria Square, and collaborated with Outside In to respond to the Jerwood Collection, culminating in a talk at The Herbert Gallery in Coventry.
