Quotes

I seek to merge the incorporeal materiality of sound, music, and dance into wearable sculptures - capturing the essence of a song and echo of a dance.

Isla Paine

Isla Paine recently graduated from Manchester School of Art, Isla explores design practices that question the inherent ideas of craft. Pushing the boundaries of what is meant by jewellery and exploring the materiality of wearables. Looking to the body and movement and considering how the body and jewellery can become one art piece. Isla utilises the natural forms found in the body to create pieces that enhance the wearer marrying the object to the body.

Isla won the Chorus Arts Prize for Craft and Material Exploration at the 2024 New Designers. Her piece “Material Sound” sought to transform sound to a material art form, allowing the vibrations to be the artist behind the piece while the form of the work was inspired through movement and dance.
